Scientists have expressed concern about the use of autonomous decision-making robots, particularly for military use. As they become more common, these machines could also have negative impacts on areas such as surveillance and elderly care.

While I appreciate the broad thinking some scientists demonstrate, it’s important to consider the following:  One cannot form something the complexity of which surpasses the complexity of one’s self.   

While the quote above is my own, I do attribute the general concept to Donald T. Campbell. His ideas relating to vicarious selectors, and Francis Heylighen’s ideas on second order dynamical systems theory (metasystem transitions) provide a foundation for understanding the world and how people organize experience.
